Submitted by Ms. Tammy!A Balloon for Isabel by Deborah Underwood. The animals are excited to be graduating from kindergarten. Every animal will receive a brightly colored balloon at graduation, except the porcupines–they will be receiving bookmarks. Isabel and her porcupine friends really want a balloon. She points out to her teacher that they have already received bookmarks for all the previous holidays. Her teacher refuses to change her mind, it being dangerous to give a porcupine a balloon. Isabel starts to think of different plans to solve the problem of their quills popping the balloons. She wears a pop-stopper box to breakfast. When this doesn’t work, she straps on pillows, and eventually tries wrapping her friend in packing bubbles. Finally, on the day of graduation, a solution is found: gumdrops on their quills to cover the points! In the end, her porcupine teacher is revealed, wearing gumdrops on her quills, and holding a special balloon of her very own! See this book listed in our catalog
