Submitted by Ms. Carol! The Busy Beaver by Nicholas Oldland is a story about a beaver who is just so busy, he never has time to stop and think about anything. He starts to become very careless. He leaves a mess everywhere he goes, with half-chewed trees all over the place. He becomes so careless he chews a tree and it lands right on top of a bear. He doesn’t pay attention, and starts chewing on moose’s leg thinking it is a tree. He even chews a tree down and destroys a bird’s home, leaving the bird and his family homeless. Finally, one day, the beaver is so busy, he chews down a tree, and it falls right on him. He ends up in the hospital, with lots of broken bones, cuts, and bruises. Now he has no choice but to slow down and relax. He then realizes all the messes he has made. When he gets well, he returns to the forest, apologizes to all his friends, and does a lot of cleaning and fixing up all his messes. In the end, he realizes the importance of taking his time and thinking things through, and taking care of people and the world around him. This is a good lesson for children and adults as well.
