Submitted by Ms. Jill!Little Lost Cowboy by Simon Puttock, illustrated by Caroline Jayne Church. Poor little Cowboy Coyote is lost in the desert! He can’t find his mommy, so he does the only thing he can think of: he howls to the moon that he is lost and lonesome. The kindly moon offers Cowboy some well-intentioned advice, but when the little coyote pup follows the moon’s instructions, his situation only gets worse. A snake in the grass and a bird in a tree chime in with suggestions of their own, but poor Cowboy just ends up even MORE lost, lonesome, tired, sore, wet, AND stuck in a dark hole! Will Cowboy Coyote ever get home to his mommy? A toad in the hole offers one more piece of advice that just might do the trick. This simple, reassuring picture book with a Southwestern flair is just right for little ones. Cowboy’s increasing worry as he tries to find the way home creates just enough tension without being too scary, and the happy ending offers a good teachable moment for young children about what to do if they are ever lost or separated from their adults (hint: STAY PUT and yell for help!)
