The Pirates Next Door by Jonny Duddle. When a family finally moves in next door to Matilda, she is thrilled, because the house next door has been empty for as long as she can remember. Here in DULL–ON–SEA, a sea-side town where she lives, there are very few kids to play with. Tilda hopes there will be a girl her age, or maybe a boy! A pirate boy! “AHOY!” she hears. He has a patch on his eye, and a wooden-legged dog. “We’re the Jolly-Rogers.” The boy introduces his family, and tells her all about them. They have their pirate ship with them. At dinner that night, Matilda says to her parents, “Life’s not boring anymore! Isn’t it fantastic that those pirates moved next door?” Her parents are not so thrilled, and neither is the neighborhood. Complaints pour in, and even a petition is formed against them. But eventually everyone changes their mind, and Tilda knows she is lucky to have a pirate friend. See this book listed in our catalog
