Red & Yellow’s Noisy Night by Josh Selig is a story about conflict resolution. Red and Yellow are two creatures that live in the branches of an olive tree together. Most of the time, life is harmonious. But occasionally, Red and Yellow do not see eye to eye. Like when Yellow thinks it’s time for bed, and Red thinks it’s time to play his “strummy.” Yellow tries to impart the importance of a good night’s rest to Red, but Red just wants to make music. “Stop playing your strummy so I can sleep!” says Yellow. “Stop trying to sleep so I can play my strummy!” says Red. But before anyone can get too upset, they reach a compromise. If Red plays his strummy soft and sweetly, it will actually help Yellow get to sleep, and then they can both be happy! This book is a product of the Little Light Foundation which was inspired by Selig’s experiences working in children’s television with Israelis and Palestinians. The goal of the Little Light Foundation is to create media which helps children learn to treat each other with respect, and I think this book accomplishes that purpose in a beautiful way. We all have something to learn from Red, Yellow, and their strummy. See this book listed in our catalog and learn more about The Olive Branch.
