Up! Tall! And High! by Ethan Long teaches important concepts of location, height, and size in a humorous way, with a cast of colorful birds. The book is episodic, with three distinct stories. In “I Am Tall” the birds philosophize about being tall. Can you call yourself tall if someone is taller than you? Can you call yourself tall if you’re wearing stilts? Is “tall” and “not small” essentially the same thing? In “I Can Go High” the birds discuss how far into the sky they can go. Some birds can fly high. Some birds can fly very high. Some birds can’t fly, but that doesn’t mean they can’t go high… And in “I Am Up” a bird rues the day he bragged about being up in a tree while his heavy friend was down on the ground. But when they are both down, they have friends to help them up. This is an excellent book to practice playing with language with your little one. See this book listed in our catalog
