Crankee Doodle by Tom Angleberger, illustrated by Cece Bell. Yankee Doodle is bored. But when his pony suggests they go to town, he refuses. The pony suggests reasons why they should go. Perhaps Yankee could buy a feather for his hat. And maybe then he could call it macaroni. WHAT?!?!? Why would he want to do that? It’s a hat, and it doesn’t even look a little like macaroni! But wait–the pony says “macaroni” means “fancy.” Yankee replies “Macaroni isn’t fancy… You know what’s fancy? Lasagna. Lasagna is fancy.” He does not want a feather in his hat, he does not want to call it macaroni, and he definitely does NOT want to go to town. Can the pony convince Yankee Doodle to go? Read the story to find out! Yankee Doodle’s long, silly rants are sure to induce laughter, and make this an excellent book to read aloud. See this book listed in our catalog
