In My Father the Dog by Elizabeth Bluemle two young children are convinced that their father is actually a dog not a human! They share their observations of the similarities between their father and the family pet. Both dad and pooch start the day with a good scratch before fetching the morning paper then clearing the room with a single “toot” (trying to look innocent). They make a quick pit stop by a tree, play a game, and enjoy a long afternoon nap. After a long day, they investigate a loud noise in the night, displaying loyalty to the “best family in the world.” The illustrations in this book accentuate the humor, especially in the physical similarities between the dad and the dog.
