Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes is the tale of Lilly: a feisty, fancy, school-loving mouse. Lilly loves her teacher. She even wants to be a teacher (or maybe a surgeon or a diva) like Mr. Slinger. So, imagine how thrilled Lilly is to show off her brand new movie star sunglasses, shiny quarters, and purple plastic purse to her adored teacher. Unfortunately, her excitement repeatedly interrupts the day. When Lilly is reprimanded she becomes heartbroken and angry. She gives Mr. Slinger a mean picture she’s drawn, but the kind note she finds in her purse prompts Lilly to acknowledge her mistake. She must now try and apologize to the wonderful Mr. Slinger. Kevin Henkes’s humorous and expressive illustrations add even more fun to his delightful story, which offers a great opportunity to discuss patience and making amends.
