When I wake up, yawning as I stretch my back, I look out my window and smile at my neighbor as he waters his front yard. Later, as he carefully shaves before going into work, he smiles at his wife as she comes in to brush her teeth. She carries that smile with her all morning until she decides to pass it to a little girl trying to help her mom push a shopping cart at the grocery story. Later that day, that little girl smiles at her sister, who laughs out loud and smiles in the direction of some kids riding by on their bikes. Those kids go on to smile at other people, who smile at other people, who keep smiling until that single smile has been passed all over town. Miles of Smiles by Karen Kaufman Orloff, illustrated by Luciano Lozano, is a beautiful book about how all it may take to make the world a better place is a single smile pointed in the right direction. As infectious as a cold, but much more fun, a smile can travel from person to person, brightening up everyone’s day in a matter of minutes. This book seeks to answer the question “How far can a smile travel?” with an enjoyable read that is sure to brighten up the day of every reader. See this book listed in our catalog
