I Am a Rainbow
Submitted by Amanda from Lexington Park!I Am a Rainbow by Dolly Parton is an adorable book that associates colors with emotions that every boy and girl experiences. Written in rhyme, it connects each feeling and color with a great picture to illustrate the point. Pink- as sweet at cotton candy! Red- as angry as a bear! Blue – bored and sad! It goes on and on. The author shows that everyone has feelings as different as colors, and urges the reader to understand those feelings in others. She goes on to explain that everyone is a rainbow of different feelings, and “It’s not up to you, the way that you feel. But how you act IS a different deal.” See this book listed in our catalog

Submitted by Amanda from Lexington Park!
Mr. Peabody’s Apples by Madonna. Mr. Peabody a teacher in the very small town of Happyville. On Saturdays he coaches baseball. The team isn’t very good, but they always have a good time. One day after a baseball game, Tommy Tittlebotton thinks he sees Mr. Peabody steal an apple from the fruit market. He tells all his friends, who tell all their friends, and parents, who tell all their friends in the very small town of Happyville. The next Saturday, no one shows up for the baseball game except for Billy. Billy tells Mr. Peabody that everyone in town thinks he is a thief because Tommy Tittlebottom told them that Mr. Peabody stole an apple. Mr. Peabody proves to Billy he is not a thief, and he runs off to tell Tommy. When Tommy finds out, he goes to Mr. Peabody to apologize, but Mr. Peabody tells him it would be as difficult to undo the rumor that he is a thief as it would be to pick up a pillow full of feathers that have been spread around by the wind. This great tale help kids of all ages realize the power of their words, and teaches a great lesson about spreading rumors.
I Already Know I Love You
Submitted by Catherine from Lexington Park!I Already Know I Love You, by Billy Crystal, is a simple and touching poem set to beautifully soft illustrations. It tells the story of a man who is so looking forward to the birth of his granddaughter that he can hardly contain his excitement. He tells the little girl that when she’s born, they will go to the zoo, read stories, and root for the Yankees (even though her Daddy loves the Sox). The simplicity of the words and the gentle colors of the pictures help to create a tender and appealing story that grandfathers and granddaughters, or just families in general, will be able to share and enjoy.
