Cat Knit by Jacob Grant. Cat and Girl are great friends. One day Girl brings home a guest. His name is Yarn. Cat and Yarn become the best of friends. They do everything together. They have so much fun. They are inseparable until Girl takes Yarn away. When Yarn returns he is no longer a fun cuddly ball, he has changed. Yarn is now a nice warm sweater for Cat. Cat is mad. He tries hard to lose the sweater. Cat does not like the sweater. It is itchy and stuffy. When he finally does get rid of it he realizes it wasn’t so bad after all. It did keep him nice and warm. Cat puts the sweater back on. He now knows that sometimes change is good. Even though Yarn has changed they can still be friends. See this book listed in our catalog

The Mermaid and the Shoe by K. G. Campbell is a lovely story about a young mermaid and how she finds her gift. Minnow, one of King Neptune’s fifty daughters, had no accomplishments. Her sisters were excellent gardeners, fish trainers, and singers but she was only very good at asking questions. That is until the day a pair of beautiful red shoes floats into her path. Determined to figure out what this is, Minnow sets off on an adventure to new depths of the sea. She returns with new knowledge and figures out that her gift is that of being a daring explorer. Vegetables in Underwear by Jared Chapman is a very silly story about vegetables in all kinds of different underwear. The vegetables are trying to tell us that everyone wears underwear. Underwear comes in all shapes and sizes. In this very funny book the Chapman shows different vegetables in all kinds of underwear. There are big underwear, small underwear, dirty underwear, clean underwear, old and new underwear, serious and funny underwear. The illustrations are adorable and the message is clear: everyone wears underwear, just remember to put your clothes on top. See this book listed in our catalog

Each time, Mouse asks Polar Bear if they are his. Each time, they belong to another animal friend. Hooray for Hat!

February 13, 2015 by Sara Leave a Comment

Submitted by Ms. Tess!

In Hooray for Hat by Brian Won, Elephant wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. When his doorbell rings, he bellows “GO AWAY! I’M GRUMPY!” But what he sees on his doorstep is a present! And when he unwraps the present, he sees it is a most amazing hat. Five hats actually, stacked up on top of each other, kind of like a super hat. Elephant is no longer grumpy. He is overjoyed. So much so, that he decides to show his friend Zebra. But when he gets to Zebra’s, he finds out Zebra is also having a grumpy day. So Elephant shares part of his hat with Zebra, which cheers him up. “HOORAY FOR HAT!” they exclaim. They wander to the abodes of their other animal friends, sharing the super hat along the way, proving once and for all, as if we had any doubt, that the right accessory can really make all the difference. Underpants Dance

July 28, 2014 by Sara 2 Comments

Submitted by Ms. Brenda!

In Underpants Dance by Marlena Zapf, Lily McBloom has just gotten a new pair of fancy pink underpants. She is so excited about them that she celebrates wherever she goes with an underpants dance. She twirls, leaps, cartwheels, and curtsies to show off her pretty pink frills. While friends and even some strangers laugh, Lily’s sister is humiliated by her underpants dancing, and her parents and teachers think she’s gotten a little too old to keep showing off her underpants. Lily tries very hard to make excuses to continue, but learns that their neighbor Mrs. Lacey isn’t really showing off her own underpants, she’s drying her laundry on the line. And ballet dancers aren’t actually wearing their underpants in public, they’re wearing tutus and tights. One morning, Lily finds a pair of pants on her bed. Her sister explains that the pants are for her to wear over her underpants. Lily isn’t sure about this. No one will be able to see her frilly underpants. She won’t be able to do the underpants dance. No one will laugh at a plain old pants dance. After giving it some thought, she gets dressed. She leaps and twirls and dances her way outside just in time to show her sister and her sister’s friends her new dance. With a “TA-DA!” she has them all giggling at her “Overpants” dance. The illustrator, Lynne Avril, twirls us through the story with vivid pictures of a most precocious little girl in the fanciest underpants ever! See this book listed in our catalog
