Daytime Nighttime and Animal 1 2 3

August 12, 2014 by Sara Leave a Comment

Submitted by Ms. Allana!

Daytime Nighttime by Willliam Low. This is a stunning, simple yet lively book about the creatures you will see at different times of the day. The text is well suited for toddler age, and the illustrations just jump off the page with splendid color and vivacious detail: butterflies, robin, rabbit, frog, puppy, then fireflies as the sun sets. Day turns to night as bats and owls come to life on these pages. This book will delight small children as a lap read, but also in a story time setting. See this book listed in our catalog
Animal 1 2 3 by Britta Teckentrup. This is a fabulous book for counting from 1 to10 featuring different animals in splashy, full color illustrations. The wiggly worm, marching elephants, and tall giraffes decorate each page in turn. The actual number on each page folds out to expand the pages for more fun. This would be a great toddler story time book for a small  group doing a counting theme. See this book listed in our catalog

Dig! by Andrea Zimmerman. Mr. Rally and his dog Lightning love to dig! That’s good, because Mr. Rally’s job is to drive a backhoe and dig up lots and lots of dirt. Today Mr. Rally has five important digging jobs to do. Readers are encouraged to count to five and find the numbered signs at each job site, as Mr. Rally and Lightning help put up a bridge, pile up a new hill, dig a swimming pool, clear away a landslide, and build a new zoo. A rhythmic, rhyming chant keeps the story moving as Mr. Rally digs his way through the busy work day, to a fun and surprising ending. Alert readers will notice that Lightning has been working on a digging project of his own along the way! See this book listed in our catalog

Soo’s Boo-Boos

June 17, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

Submitted by Ms. Tammy!

In Soo’s Boo-Boos by Tilda Balsley, Soo enters the house holding up boo-boo number 10! A scratched arm. She goes through her boo-boos one at a time explaining each one to her mother. Her toe rubs inside her shoe, her lips are chapped, her nose drips, she has burned her tongue on a hot waffle, and the list goes on, until she reaches number 10. Mom thinks for a moment, then quickly has a solution for each of the boo-boos. She puts a hot pink band-aid on her arm, new shoes for her toe, cherry flavored Chap Stick for her lips, a cold popsicle for a burnt tongue, and soft tissue for her nose… Once mom has taken care of each boo-boo, Soo heads back outside for more fun!
