Hi Pizza Man

June 28, 2017 by Sara Leave a Comment

Submitted by Ms. Tess!

Hi Pizza Man by Virginia Walter, with illustrations by Ponder Goembel, is a veritable children’s classic! If you haven’t read it before, you should treat yourself and check it out. Who doesn’t love pizza? Better yet: a pizza delivered to your house! But it can be HARD to wait for the delicious cheesey, saucey, crusty goodness to get to you. Vivian is experiencing this problem directly. Her mother tries to encourage her to be patient by playing a guessing game. What will you say when we finally open the door? “Hi, Pizza Man!” BUT what if it’s not a man? What if it’s a pizza woman? OR a pizza… cat? A pizza dog, duck, or cow? Who else might deliver your pizza and how would you greet them? You and your child will have fun playing along with Vivian and her mother until that fateful moment when it’s time to scarf some slices! See this book listed in our catalog

Too Many Carrots

June 21, 2017 by Sara Leave a Comment

Submitted by Ms. Tess!

Too Many Carrots by Katy Hudson is, at its core, a book about hoarding. Rabbit LOVES carrots. He collects them, and is very proud of his collection. But there’s a problem: the collection is just too big. He’s got so many carrots in his home, he can’t even find a place to sleep at night. Rabbit’s friends, who clearly care deeply about him, one by one offer up their homes to him, in his time of need. Unfortunately when Rabbit comes to stay he brings – can you guess? Carrots. Lots of them. Pretty soon none of them have a place to sleep either because Rabbit’s carrot problem is totally out of control. Finally, one day Rabbit realizes that having all these carrots isn’t making his life better, it’s making his life worse! Luckily there IS a solution. Check out the book to find out how Rabbit gets his life back on track, with the help of his very good friends! See this book listed in our catalog

1 Big Salad

November 10, 2016 by Sara Leave a Comment

Submitted by Ms. Sam!

1 Big Salad by Juana Medina is a delicious counting book that kids and adults will equally love with it’s nutritious fun elements. From 1 through 10, each ingredient for the big salad is depicted as a fun little animal. We begin with 1 Avocado Deer and move to 4 Carrot Horses to 7 Radicchio Lions to 10 Clementine Kitties. Each page will help kiddos practice their counting skills as well as use their imagination to see the fruit/veggie animals. All ten ingredients make up a wonderfully healthy salad that might even grab the attention of the pickiest eaters. There is also a quick and simple recipe for salad dressing in the back! Everyone Loves Bacon

October 28, 2016 by Sara Leave a Comment

Bacon. What can we say? Everyone loves it. Except maybe vegetarians. The book Everyone Loves Bacon by Kelly DiPucchio with illustrations by Eric Wight goes behind the scenes with Bacon, giving us insight into the life and times of our favorite food. Egg loves Bacon. Pancake loves Bacon. French Toast does not love Bacon (but he doesn’t count because French Toast doesn’t like anyone!) And Bacon loves being popular! He gets attention wherever he goes. The other breakfast meats feel left out. But Bacon doesn’t care! Soon Bacon’s face is on t-shirts and hats! He’s a big time celebrity! He forgets all about his friends, like Lettuce and Tomato. Bacon even starts driving a fancy car, and growing a fancy mustache. Has Bacon finally gotten too big for his britches? Find out what happens in this charming cautionary tale. Mother Bruce

October 21, 2016 by Sara Leave a Comment

Submitted by Mr. Eric!

Bruce is a bear. But he isn’t just any bear; he’s a grumpy bear. You can tell from his big ol’ grumpy bear eyebrows. Anyway, one day Bruce was shopping for some food. He took his grocery cart and waded out into the river to catch some salmon. Then he pushed his cart through the forest to grab some honey from a local beehive. He only ate local–it’s good to support local business, you see. Then he grabbed some eggs from Mrs. Goose, but only after asking if they were free-range organic. Once he had all the ingredients needed to make a new recipe (hard-boiled goose eggs drizzled with honey-salmon sauce, YUM!) he found himself in a predicament. You know those eggs he took from Mrs. Goose? Well, they totally hatched into four adorable little goslings. And you know what else? They thought Bruce was their mama! BWWAAAAA?!? Mother Bruce by Ryan Higgins is a story where a grumpy bear transforms in to a marginally less grumpy bear because of the love of four baby geese… Or maybe he stays completely grumpy forever.  You have to read the book to find out! Carnivores

June 16, 2016 by Sara Leave a Comment

Submitted by Ms. Cassie!

Carnivores by Aaron Reynolds. All Lion, Wolf, and Shark really want is to fit in. They just want friends, but the zebras, bunnies, and little fish can be so mean. The ugly looks they get, just because they eat a few gazelle here and there. It’s lonely being a carnivore! What if they try vegetarianism? Can Lion and crew subsist on seaweed and salad? Can they leave their carnivorous ways behind? This is a hilarious story that reminds us to be ourselves! See this book listed in our catalog
