Psst… Yeah you… Come here for a second… What do you know about cats? I have this book that is all about cats, and all their secrets. You should check it out, but you will have to be sneaky… Cat Secrets by Jef Czekaj is a book just for cats. So if you’re not a cat, you’ll have to trick those frisky felines into thinking that you can meow with the best of them. On each page, they will do their best to find out whether or not you’re a cat, because they don’t want to share all of their secrets with boys, or girls, or mice… especially mice! Told in a comic strip style, with speech bubbles, this is a great book to read with friends. You will have so much fun playing games with those kitties, and if you’re paying close attention, you might see a mouse who also would like to learn all of the Cat Secrets too! Pigs Aplenty, Pigs Galore!
Submitted by (our newest blogger) Ms. Brenda!
Pigs Aplenty, Pigs Galore! is a wonderfully fun rhyming book written and illustrated by David McPhail. Imagine you’re sitting alone, at night, reading quietly to yourself. All of a sudden you hear crunching, munching, burping noises. What can THAT be? You hop up to find out and you see… PIGS!?! Pigs everywhere! “Pigs in tutus, pigs in kilts, pigs on skateboards, pigs on stilts.” If that’s not bad enough, more pigs start arriving by boat, plane, and even train! They’re making oatmeal in the sink, and ordering pizza. Some are, ahem, in only their underwear. And… oh, the mess they’re making! Read to find out just how much trouble these pigs can get into, and if they’re willing to clean up afterward. This book is fun to read one on one, or in a group. It’s a personal favorite of mine because both of my kids each got such a kick out of it. See this book listed in our catalog
When I Grow Up
Submitted by Ms. Carol!
When I Grow Up by Al Yankovic is a very humorous story about a little eight year old boy who has dreams of being lots of things when he grows up. It’s show-and-tell in Mrs. Krupp’s class today, and the children are to tell everyone what they would like to be when they grow up. Billy is so excited he even goes first! Billy says he would like to be a great chef, who makes unusual dishes, such as toast on a stick or twinkies au gratin. Of course Billy doesn’t stop there. He has many ideas. Maybe he’ll be a snail trainer, or a professional pickle inspector. He could milk giraffes and make giraffe cheese. Maybe a gorilla masseuse, a rodeo clown, or a tarantula shaver. Billy has quite an imagination. Billy’s grandpa just turned one hundred and three, and he has had many jobs, but he still doesn’t know what he wants to be, so of course Billy has time to do decide, and maybe he can do all these things! This is a cute story about growing up, and the pressure of deciding what you want to be. It’s okay to not know, and to take your time and just see what the future brings. Stop Snoring, Bernard!
Submitted by Ms. Tess!
Stop Snoring Bernard by Zachariah OHora is an adorable story about an otter named Bernard. Bernard loves living in the zoo. He loves mealtime, and playtime, and most of all naptime! But there’s one little problem… Bernard snores. Loudly. And Grumpy Giles has had enough. He tells Bernard to “snore somewhere else!” So Bernard tries napping in the lake, but ends up disturbing the alligators. He tries napping in the fountain, but that disturbs the giraffes. He tries napping in a cave, but that disturbs the bats! Poor Bernard is feeling so sad and dejected. There is nowhere for him to sleep! But while Bernard has been looking everywhere for a new place to nap, the otters have been looking everywhere for Bernard! It turns out they can’t sleep without him! Even Grumpy Giles feels bad for yelling. I love books that end happily. I especially love books that end with naps! If you feel the same, you should definitely check out Stop Snoring Bernard. You’ll be glad you did! See this book listed in our catalog

Enjoy these books about animal noises:
It’s Monkey Truck to the rescue! Oo! Eee! Ooo! Aaah! This helpful, banana gas burning monkey is who the Jungle King calls when the underbrush is in trouble. Are the hippos stuck? Are the snakes tied in a knot? Have no fear, Monkey Truck is near! The vivid and cartoon like illustrations add to the comedy of this tale. Delightful and fast, Monkey Truck by Michael Slack will be a treat for those little boys on the go. See this book listed in our catalog
Crush! Squash! Snatch! “I’m going to catch that fly,” or so think the Elephant, Hippo, and Tiger. But no… the tiny little fly is too smart, and it’s those big, clumsy mammals who end up in a lot of muddy muck. Tiny Little Fly by Michael Rosen, with illustrations by Kevin Waldron, has larger than life images that compliment this teasing tale of a fly who knows how to get by. Introduce your children to animal sounds with the book Chicken, Chicken, Duck by Nadia Krilanovich. This could be read over and over and over… in many different and fun ways! Cinco de Mouse-O!
Submitted by Ms. Amanda!
Cinco de Mouse-o! by Judy Cox is an adventurous tale of a mouse and his first Cinco de Mayo. There are excellent descriptions of Cinco de Mayo traditions through the eyes of a mouse. It begins one morning when Mouse wakes up to a fantastic smell, a beany, cheesy, ricey smell! He follows the smell out of his hidey hole and down to the plaza, but what he doesn’t know is while he is following the smell a cat is following him! Mouse finds that in the plaza is an amazing fiesta! He sees an enticing piñata full of candy, and people all around him eating tacos, tamales, chorizos, and flan! He samples some of all the yummy foods and then dozes off to sleep, until the cat begins to chase him! Mouse runs through dancers’ stomping, tapping, pounding feet to avoid the cat. While mariachis play, and fireworks boom, Mouse hides from the cat, until he sees that it is time for the piñata! He comes out of hiding to the piñata in search of sweets for his own Cinco de Mouse-o celebration, while the cat waits below for the mouse to drop like a piece of candy from the piñata! Finally Mouse escapes the cat and find his very own candy to take back to his hidey hole! Mouse then has his own Cinco de Mouse-o celebration! See this book listed in our catalog
