The Zebra who was Sad by Rachel Elliot and John Bendall-Brunello. Zebra is sad. His best friend, Giraffe, is moving away! His other jungle friends try to cheer him up and play games with him. Even though he’s having fun, he feels sad that he’s having it without his friend Giraffe. It doesn’t take long for him to realize it’s okay to have fun and still miss your friend. Eventually he receives a letter from Giraffe who says he misses Zebra and all their other jungle friends. This gives Zebra the opportunity to cheer his friend Giraffe up, because that’s what friends do. They make you feel happy. The back of the book offers suggestions on what to discuss next with your child and how to go from sad to happy. This is a perfect teaching book for those who are moving away, or have someone close to them that is moving away. You can also discuss emotions and what causes them.
